Little Men
To read Julie's page on the horrid attack on the World Trade Center, flollow the link to:
Josephine Bhaer
"Jo"
Jo and her husband, Fritz, opened Plumfield when Jo inherited it from her Aunt. When he died she was determined to keep the school open, though it was hard. No one thought a woman could do it, but she proved them all wrong. Jo is a very independent, capable woman. She loves to teach, she loves to write and most of all she loves being a mother to not only Rob, but all the other children as well. She loves the outdoors, and is always up to a challenge. She puts the kids interests above her own, and is always looking out for them. They all love her dearly.
Nick Riley
Nick's parents and sister died when he was a kid, and he and his brother, Ben, had to stay with his Aunt and Uncle. His uncle was a drunk, and a violent man, so he and Ben left to set out on their own. He went to sea at 15, and has traveled the world over. He first came to Plumfield temporarily, but he punches Captain Hoffman and gets arrested for assault. Jo talks the Judge into letting Nick serve out his sentence at Plumfield, as their caretaker.
Nick is a hard worker, but he does have a bit of a temper. He's great with the kids, and they obey him without question. He's handy with about everything, and keeps Plumfield in top shape... except maybe the front gate!
Nathaniel Blake
"Nat"
Nat is an orphan, who was living on the streets with Dan, when Laurie brought him to Plumfield and sponsored his education.
He's a quiet, shy boy who is a gifted violinist and writer. He never used to be very brave, but is slowly overcoming his fears and gaining new strength. He likes Nan, but just doesn't realize it yet....
Anthea Harding
"Nan"
Nan is a tomboy, who believes she can do anything a boy can do, and she can do it better! She loves to go fishing and collect bugs, and wants to be a doctor when she grows up. Her mother is dead, and her father doesn't have to much to do with her. She misses them both very much.
Daniel Madison
"Dan"
Dan was found on Madison Street by a police officer when he was very young and left at an orphanage. Though they searched for his family for months, no one was found. He eventually ran away from the orphanage, and was living on the streets of Boston. Laurie sponsors Dan to go to Plumfield too.
He had a discipline problem at first, but has gotten a lot better. He likes to help Nick, and is a great tracker and marksman, thanks to an Indian friend. He would like to go out west one day.
Dan is sweet on Bess.
Bess Lawrence
Bess is the only child of Laurie and Amy, and is very spoiled. Laurie enrolled her at Plumfield, against Amy's wishes, because he was worried about her. She was missing out on her childhood, and needed to learn to have fun.
Bess is very interested in how she looks, and her dresses... A lot like her mother! She had wanted to become a professional singer, but her voice sounded like a goose!
Emil Hoffman
Emil's parents are dead, and his Uncle is his guardian. Captain Hoffman, is very cruel to Emil and beats him. I believe that is where Emil picked up his bullying attitude.
He hopes to join the Navy when he grows up.
Tommy Bangs
Tommy is a very clumsy boy, and is always getting hurt. Breaking dishes is also something he's not a stranger to! He is also Nan's little guinea pig, and always does what she tells him to, from wearing her anti-itch ointment, to testing her grape juice.
Rob Bhaer
Rob is the only son of Fritz and Jo Bhaer. He is still to young to attend the school, so he spends his days with Asia when Jo is teaching. He loves all the older students, and they all watch out for him. He likes to be read to, a couple of his favorite books include Noah's ark and the Three Little Pigs. He also likes to go fishing.
Franz Bhaer
Franz is the nephew of Fritz and Jo Bhaer, after Fritz died Franz took over teaching the class. Because he was so young, some of the parents pulled their boys out of Plumfield, and Captain Hoffman even tried finding a replacement teacher. But Franz proved his worth as a teacher and stayed on permanently, giving up Harvard. He eventually met Isabelle and fell in love. When she moves to Arizona, he packs his bags and follows her.
Asia Franklin
Asia is the cook and housekeeper at Plumfield, and she is well loved by all. She is very close to Nan especially. She gives great advice, and is like a mother to the children and a sister to Jo.
Meg Brooks
Meg is Jo's older sister, and she is also a widow. She has a set of twins, Demi and Daisy, but they aren't yet old enough to attend Plumfield. She was seeing a Lawyer named Edward for a while, but he broke it off when she chose to stay in Concord rather than move to New York. I think that there might be a spark between her and the newspaper editor... Harrison Bridger.
Amy Lawrence
Amy is Jo's younger sister, she is married to Laurie and is mother to Bess. Amy likes the finer things in life, is quite vain and is a very good artist. She, Jo and Meg fight like cats and dogs, but they always make up. They are all very close.
Theodore Lawrence
"Laurie"
Laurie, Amy's husband and Bess' dad, is a very nice, generous man. He and Jo have been close friends since they were kids. He Sponsors both Nat and Dan to attend Plumfield. He is always doing things for the school, like buying them books for their Library, or lack there of!
Captivating Concord Couples

Franz Bhaer & Isabelle McGregger
