Japanese translation of "Anne of Green Gables" has been
published by Hara Shobo, translated by Professor Shiro Yamamoto of
Tokyo University. This is of particular interest because it is a translation
of "The Annotated Anne of Green Gables", Edited by
M.A. Doody, et al. |

On Wednesday,
October 6, the Swansea Historical Society starts its fall program
with a talk by children's author Bernice
Thurman Hunter who met L.M. Montgomery when she was young. Hunter
wrote her encounter with Montgomery in the Booky series. Hunter
is going to talk about her "Growing up in Swansea During the

The family
of the first Japanese translator of the Anne series, Hanako Muraoka,
have a museum dedicated to Hanako entitled the Anne
Memorial Room. Canadian Prime Minister Jean
Chretien personally presented a special award from the Canadian
government on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations
Between Canada and Japan. |

The
West Heritage Village Centre
(one of the filming sites of Anne of Green Gablesand
The Road to Avonlea) in Rockton, Ontario will have an Anne
of Green Gables Day on Sunday, September 12th. The Westfield Heritage
Village is located just north of Highway 8 halfway between Dundas
and Cambridge near Rockton. |

Today, 12
members from Buttercups
,the largest Montgomery fan club in Japan, travelled to Leaskdale
and presented a cheque for $1400.00 CDN to Mayor O'Connor of Uxbridge
and Wilda Clark, a consultant of the L.M. Montgomery Committee, for
the Leaskdale Manse restoration
project. The L.M. Montgomery Committee opened the manse for the
visitors, gave them tours around the area, and hosted a wonderful
tea. The group also donated $1250.00 CDN in 1996. And many members
have made donations individually. |

Canadian
children's author Tim
Wynne-Jones' book, Lord the Fries and Other Stories, which
contains a comical short story entitled The Anne Rehearsals,
was recently published. The main characters Carmen, Koko and Deidre
call themselves "the Rillas" based on Rilla of Ingleside.
Their school is going to put on Anne of Green Gables as the
end-of-the-year musical, and the Rillas are excited. But... Groundwood

just recently, and I got my copy today. Contributors include Yoshiko
Akamatsu, Margaret Atwood, Adrienne Clarkson, Jennifer Lister, Mary
Henley Rubio, Elizabeth Waterston and more. University of Toronto

Linda Jackson-Hutton of the Bala's
Museum created a wonderful limited edition plate for a commemorative
of the125th birthday of L.M. Montgomery. There is a picture of it
on their site. |

Canadian
author Mary Frances Coady's novel for youth entitled Lucy Maud
and Me was published by Beach
Holme Publishing, Vancouver, B.C. I'm still reading it. And I
had the opportunity to help her with her research at the Osborne. |

The long
awaited book, The Lucy Maud Montgomery Album, just came out.
Compiled by Kevin McCabe and edited by Alexandra
Heilbron. It was published by Fitzhenry
& Whiteside, Toronto. I have two small chapters in it. One
on LMM and Japan, and the other on LMM in Ontario. (Check the recent
