About The Avonlea Spectacle

The Avonlea Spectacle was founded in April 1995. The original plan was to make it an entirely fictional magazine, with articles written by LMM's characters and the characters on Road to Avonlea. At the time of the publication of the first issue, the news was that Road to Avonlea was going to be ending the following year, and that helped the Editor decide to make it a magazine with both facts *and* fictions.

Five issues were published that year in a newsletter format. In 1996, The Avonlea Spectacle became a more lengthy magazine and increased circulation. Fall of 1996 saw the addition of colour to the magazine and it has evolved numerous times since then.

April 1998 was perhaps the most important time period in the publication of the magazine, as it became licensed by the Heirs of Lucy Maud Montgomery, and the Anne of Green Gables Licensing Authority, a distinction we are very proud to have in each issue.

Nineteen issues have been published to date, and the magazine is published roughly every 2 1/2 months. The Avonlea Spectacle covers all things about Lucy Maud Montgomery and her works, her characters, Prince Edward Island, and the movie and television adaptations based on her works. The special emphasis is on LMM's time in Ontario, primarily Leaskdale, Ontario. Each issue is a blend of LMM news and movie/television news.

Each issue is 28 pages long, 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" in magazine format. It is becoming well-known as one of the best sources for LMM/Avonlea-related information.
