The History...
Avonlea.net was a whim of an idea that originated in early November 1998. The Avonlea
Maven had a thought that it would be interesting to have an Avonlea domain and thought
that avonlea.net had a nice ring to it. Surprisingly, the domain was still available, and
The Avonlea Maven was delighted to purchase it. The Avonlea Maven then decided that it
would be fitting to open the site to the public on November 30th, the 124th birthday of Lucy
Maud Montgomery, the creator of Avonlea and all of its wonderful characters and stories.
Fortunately, The Avonlea Maven is also an HTML Maven, and was able to concoct the site,
which now graces your browser, in a comparatively short time.
What is Avonlea?
You may find yourself on Avonlea.net and now know what Avonlea is. Avonlea is the fictional
town made famous in the novel Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Avonlea or Road
to Avonlea, a well-known and much loved Canadian television program, is based on another
series of books by L.M. Montgomery. Avonlea has become a word symbolic for peace, beauty,
imagination, happiness, elegance, and Victorian &  Edwardian times. We use Avonlea as
the ideal word to describe everything relating to L.M. Montgomery, her writings and
the exquisite television programs based on them.
What is Avonlea.net?
Avonlea.net has several objectives. We aim to make this one of the largest and most
informative websites devoted to L.M. Montgomery and Avonlea, with original, entertaining
content. Avonlea.net is also used as a medium for advertising our publication,
The Avonlea Spectacle, edited by The Avonlea Maven and, as of January 1, 1999,
published by Moonrise Hollow Incorporated.
Avonlea.net is also a source for up-to-date news about the world of Avonlea, as can
be found on our This Week in
Avonlea... page, which will be updated every Sunday evening or Monday, depending on
The Avonlea Maven's schedule.

The Avonlea Spectacle magazine. This background, which appears on several
pages on the site, is a painting of L.M. Montgomery that originally appeared on the
cover of
The Best of The Avonlea Spectacle. We absolutely do not allow the
photographs and artwork
on this site to be used by anyone in any manner whatsoever. Works appearing on this
site that we do not own the copyrights to have been used only with permission and
