The Journey Begins

When Sara Stanley's father finds himself in the center of an embezzlement scandal, he sends his daughter and her Nanny Louisa to live with Sara's aunts, Hetty and Olivia King, in the town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. When it is determined there is no room for both Sara and her nanny, Hetty sends Louisa back to Montreal, leaving Sara alone with her two aunts.

The Story Girl Earns Her Name

Sara inadvertently helps a con man skip town with school library funds. In an attempt to make amends, Sara enlists the help of town recluse, Jasper Dale, to put on a Magic Lantern Show to raise money. Sara's rival, Sally Potts, pushes the Magic Lantern over, causing a fire. Jasper Dale is blamed for the fire, but Sara and the other children force a confession from Sally.

The Quarantine at Alexander Abraham's

Rachel Lynde goes to Alexander Abraham's farm to find a boy missing from her Sunday school class. When Sara and Felix go to warn the boy they -- and Mrs. Lynde -- discover he is no longer there but "old man Abraham" has smallpox and all four are placed under quarantine. Everyone eventually comes to term with being cooped up and Mrs. Lynde nurses Abraham through his illness.

The Materializing of Duncan McTavish

Marilla Cuthbert tells her sewing circle a lie about her past, that she once had a beau named Duncan McTavish. When a traveling salesman with the same name arrives in town, Sara tells Marilla in front of all her friends and Marilla must find a way out of her predicament.

Old Lady Lloyd

Sara and her cousins intrude on the property of the eccentric, old Miss Lloyd. Through her inquiries, Sara discovers that Sylvia Gray (a struggling singer who is visiting Aunt Olivia) is the orphaned daughter of Miss Lloyd's ex-suitor. Miss Lloyd asks her wealthy cousin, Mr. Cameron, for his assistance so that Sylvia can complete her musical education.

Proof of the Pudding

Felicity King is left alone with Felix, Cecily and Sara for two days. Her know-it-all attitude provokes the others, and mayhem ensues. In the end, Felicity admits she doesn't know everything, and finally becomes friends with Sara.

Conversions

Peter, the hired boy at Rose Cottage, falls deathly ill with influenza and the King family comes to realize how important he has been in their lives. Peter's mother is sent for and nurses her son back to health.

Aunt Abigail's Beau

Janet King's sister, Aunt Abigail, is visited by a former suitor, Malcolm McPherson, who is returning from the Yukon with newly acquired wealth. He tries to woo Abigail, but his proposal is refused and he leaves town. Sara and Felicity convince Abigail that she acted foolishly and she rushes off and asks Malcolm not to leave her.

Malcolm and the Baby

After Malcolm marries Abigail, they discover an orphaned infant left in a basket that is found by Felicity and Sara. Rachel Lynde and Hetty King renew an old feud as both claim rights to raise the baby.

The Witch of Avonlea

Felix King seeks out the help of Peg Bowen, witch of Avonlea, in order to succeed at the local spelling bee. A "cursed" cat and "magical" stone are among the surprises that await him.

Felicity's Challenge

Felicity is challenged by the other school girls to make Clemmie Ray popular at the harvest ball. Felicity becomes so involved with winning the bet that she risks losing Clemmie's friendship.

The Hope Chest of Arabella King

The King family discovers a mysterious chest of recently deceased Arabella King in the farm attic. Furthermore, Olivia starts a job at the Avonlea Chronicle to become more independent of Hetty. Sara and Olivia, along with the help of Jasper Dale, search for answers to Arabella's mysterious past.

Nothing Endures But Change
