An Enchanting Family Home Video Release

Summer of the Monkeys

(Toronto, November 17, 1998) -- Sullivan Entertainment is pleased to announce the upcoming Home Video release of the wonderful family feature film SUMMER OF THE MONKEYS. Available at both retail and rental, the video will hit stores on December 15, 1998.

Filmed on location last year outside of Saskatoon, the film stars Michael Ontkean, Wilford Brimley, Leslie Hope and young Canadian actor, Cory Sevier. Based on the best-selling book by Wilson Rawls Where the Red Fern Grows, the film tells the story of valuable, life-transforming experiences, self-sacrifice and love.

Ajax, Ontario native Cory Sevier plays 14-year-old Jay Berry, a young farm boy who has a dream of buying a young colt from the neighbouring farm. However, prospects of earning enough money working the summer at his grandfather’s store seem unlikely. One day a notice goes up in the general store offering a reward for the capture and return of four circus chimpanzees who escaped during a train wreck.

It’s a summer of fun, thrills and dangers no one will ever forget as Jay attempts to catch the elusive and infuriating monkeys. In the end, the boy captures the monkeys but finds he must face sacrificing his dream for his sister’s future. Produced by Saskatoon-based EDGE PRODUCTIONS, the Canadian release will coincide with Disney’s U.S. street-date. Running time: approximately 101 mins.
