Promise the Moon

Promise the Moon is the story of rugged ranch had, Roy Leckner (Henry Czerny), who tries to fulfill his employer's dying wish to find his son, bring him home and groom him to run the family's failing cattle ranch.  Roy soon learns that the boy has been institutionalized since birth.  When callous businessman, Sir Robert Butler, plots to take over the property, it looks like Roy has little chance of saving the ranch.  But then Sir Robert's former secretary, Jane Makepeace, joins forces with Roy to help him battle her greedy ex-employer.

Intelligent, confident and clear-sighted, Jane teaches Roy to stand up to his beliefs and inspires the reluctant hero to take on the land baron.  Despite their attempts to maintain their distance, a romance blossoms between Roy and Jane.

Private Hamp (Tom Courtenay), a volunteer at the outbreak of the First World War, and the soul survivour of his company, decides one day to "go for a walk."  Picked up by the military police, he is sent back to his unit to face court-martial for desertion.   An arrogant officer (Dirk Bogarde) reluctantly accepts the assignment to defend him.

During testimony, Bogarde begins to feel sympathy for the obviously sincere but shell-shocked Courtenay. For the first time in his military career, the officer begins to question the army's methods and attitudes toward its men.

Under The Piano is the poignant story of one woman's overwhelming faith in her talented but emotionally defenseless sister.

Strong willed Franny (Amanda Plummer) nurtures and protects Rosetta (Megan Follows), from their vain and controlling mother, Regina Basilio (Teresa Stratas), a faded opera star.  Regina is blind to Rosetta's exceptional talent, refusing to accept anything exists beneath the surface of her autistic daughter.  Regina's ignorance and desire for adulation poison her relationship with her children, so deeply that Rosetta eventually tries to take her own life.
