After her father is accused of embezzlement, wealthy Sara Stanley is sent to live with relatives in P.E.I.. While there, she must cope with her infamous aunts, Hetty and Oliva, and with the mischievous antics of her jealous cousins.  Soon Sara must make a heartwrenching decision: whether to stan in Avonlea or return to her father

In "Felix an Blackie", Felix starts a delivery service using the family workhorse.  But a foolish bet with another delivery man leads to a short-cut, a wild ride and an accident.

Next, Felix enters the local steeplechase with out his mother's knowledge.  When he is injured in a fall, Felix becomes afraid of his horse.  Janet decides to let Felix enter

One night, Sara and her cousins witness the secret return of Gus Pike's father Abe, a fugitive.  Retired sea captain Ezekiel Crane, who has befriended young Gus, makes the mistake of introducing Abe to his son and then, must fight to protect the boy. 

Gold fever strikes when Ezekiel proclaims Avonlea to be full of buried treasure.  While the town searches, Ezekiel reveals to Gus that a real treasure exists but his old shipmate has stolen half the treasure map.   Ezekiel and Gus must beat Captain Borden to pirate's loot!

Frustrated by Aunt Hetty's discipline, Sara switches places with a street waif named Jo Pitts, who strangely enough, looks exactly like Sara.  The, she follows Gus off the island where they are accidentally captured by Gus' treacherous father Abe Pike, and thrown on a boat to Jamaica.  Meanwhile in Avonlea, Jo steals and misbehaves, driving Hetty crazy with her outrageous, unlady like behaviour.

Upset by her schoolmates' taunts, Sara vows revenge. With Felix's help, Sara tricks Felicity into thinking that she was accidentally switched at birth with Sally Potts.  Confusion and hysteria breakout in the King and Potts households.

Next, Alec King's "misfit" hockey team challenges Archie Gillis' Avengers to a game.  Alex injures his back before the big day but everyone, including Miss Stacey, novice skater Sara, and the Avolea witch, steps in to help the team!

Felicity King thinks her romantic dreams may be coming true when she meets a handsome young cricket player.  But at the post-match ball, her illusions of love are quickly shattered.  All is not  lost in "How Kissing Was Discovered", however, as Gus Pike gives Felicity a lasting memory.  In "The Dinner", Felicity takes advantage of her parent's absence and invites Gus to the King home for a quiet dinner.  But the evening does not go as planned when the two are caught in a compromising situation.

In "Materializing Duncan" spinster Marilla Cuthbert becomes the victim of town gossip when she reveals a story about a former beau.  Soon the very man Marilla named appears in Avonlea, forcing her to deal with her past.  In "Of Corsets & Secrets & True, True Love", Marilla and her life-long friend Rachel Lynde struggle to cope with the arrival of newly orphaned children Davey and Dora Keith.  Rachel's agonizing toothache compounds the tense situation.  Will their friendship stand the test of time?

After Hetty quits her job as school teacher, Alex hires the lively Alister Dimple to take over.  Dimple inspires a love of learning in the students but then, Alec learns a secret that threatens Dimple's job.

Avonlea is in an uproar when an American millionaire arrives and offers to buy everyone out to build his new company town.  Adamant that no one is going to change Avonlea, Hetty enlists Jasper's help to show his "Home Movie" about the town!

In "May the Best Man Win", wealthy Edwin Clark returns to Avonlea to rekindle his romance with Oliva King.  But the charming widower isn't the same man Olivia once loved.  Jasper Dale, however, has nothing to hide and is head over heels in love with Olivia!

After Olivia makes her decision, Hetty King once again interferes in matters of the heart.  In "Ties that Bind", her meddling threatens to turn a simple family wedding into a big production.

Sara Encounters the local eccentric, old Lady Lloyd, living in her ominous mansion, and learns that she is noting but a poor and lonely woman.  With Sara's help, Miss Lloyd becomes reacquainted with her past and finds a great treasure.

Later that winter, in "The Witch of Avonlea", Felix is forced to take refuges in the cottage of Peg Bowen, the town recluse.  While there, he confronts his worst fears about the Avolea "witch"!

The children befriend a handsome young antiques dealer (Robby Benson), who inspires Felix to look for "old junk", hoping to make a fortune.  Then, Sara and Felix help the antiques dealer fool his wealthy aunt (Diana Rigg).

The arrival of Chef Pierre LaPierre's mother (Maureen Stapleton) complicates the wedding plans of Pierre's sister to the Countess Polenska's (Faye Dunaway) son.

Sara falls in love with a worldly young boy named Booth, the son of Avonlea's new minister and wife, Viola (Stockard Channing).   Sara deceives Hetty about being ill so she can sneak out to an Acadian concert with Booth, and miss the Churchwomen's musical - but she can't fool Hetty for long...

Janet befriends Viola whom the townfolk think is too eccentric for Avonlea.  But when Janet thinks she has discovered the cause of Viola's behaviour, it almost ruins there relationship
