One night, Sara and her cousins witness the secret return of Gus Pike's father Abe, a fugitive.  Retired sea captain Ezekiel Crane, who has befriended young Gus, makes the mistake of introducing Abe to his son and then, must fight to protect the boy. 

Gold fever strikes when Ezekiel proclaims Avonlea to be full of buried treasure.  While the town searches, Ezekiel reveals to Gus that a real treasure exists but his old shipmate has stolen half the treasure map.   Ezekiel and Gus must beat Captain Borden to pirate's loot!

Frustrated by Aunt Hetty's discipline, Sara switches places with a street waif named Jo Pitts, who strangely enough, looks exactly like Sara.  The, she follows Gus off the island where they are accidentally captured by Gus' treacherous father Abe Pike, and thrown on a boat to Jamaica.  Meanwhile in Avonlea, Jo steals and misbehaves, driving Hetty crazy with her outrageous, unlady like behaviour.

Upset by her schoolmates' taunts, Sara vows revenge. With Felix's help, Sara tricks Felicity into thinking that she was accidentally switched at birth with Sally Potts.  Confusion and hysteria breakout in the King and Potts households.

Next, Alec King's "misfit" hockey team challenges Archie Gillis' Avengers to a game.  Alex injures his back before the big day but everyone, including Miss Stacey, novice skater Sara, and the Avolea witch, steps in to help the team!

Avonlea is in an uproar when an American millionaire arrives and offers to buy everyone out to build his new company town.  Adamant that no one is going to change Avonlea, Hetty enlists Jasper's help to show his "Home Movie" about the town!

In "May the Best Man Win", wealthy Edwin Clark returns to Avonlea to rekindle his romance with Oliva King.  But the charming widower isn't the same man Olivia once loved.  Jasper Dale, however, has nothing to hide and is head over heels in love with Olivia!

After Olivia makes her decision, Hetty King once again interferes in matters of the heart.  In "Ties that Bind", her meddling threatens to turn a simple family wedding into a big production.

The children befriend a handsome young antiques dealer (Robby Benson), who inspires Felix to look for "old junk", hoping to make a fortune.  Then, Sara and Felix help the antiques dealer fool his wealthy aunt (Diana Rigg).

The arrival of Chef Pierre LaPierre's mother (Maureen Stapleton) complicates the wedding plans of Pierre's sister to the Countess Polenska's (Faye Dunaway) son.

Sara falls in love with a worldly young boy named Booth, the son of Avonlea's new minister and wife, Viola (Stockard Channing).   Sara deceives Hetty about being ill so she can sneak out to an Acadian concert with Booth, and miss the Churchwomen's musical - but she can't fool Hetty for long...

Janet befriends Viola whom the townfolk think is too eccentric for Avonlea.  But when Janet thinks she has discovered the cause of Viola's behaviour, it almost ruins there relationship
