(416) 921-7177Anne of Green Gables Part 3, Road to Avonlea Reunion and Animated Anne Series
Sullivan Entertainment embarks on a slate of Avonlea revival programs including Happy Christmas, Miss King, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story and Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series. Principal photography is starting on Sunday, May 3, 1998.Happy Christmas, Miss King is a movie-of-the-week scheduled for CBC broadcast, Christmas of 98 and is based on the critically-acclaimed series, Road to Avonlea. This enduring saga lasted seven seasons on the CBC Television network, and aired its finale episode, "So Dear To My Heart" in March of 1996 to over two million viewers.
Happy Christmas, Miss King is set in 1914 during World War I. The King family reunites for its traditional Christmas dinner led by the indomitable Hetty King (Jackie Burroughs). Still teaching at Avonlea school, she is rehearsing the choir for its annual Christmas concert and goes to great lengths to secure a big name to headline the event. Holiday spirits are dampened by the fact that Felix is missing in action and tragedies have hit the Avonlea community.
"Avonlea and Green Gables dont seem to have lost their allure. People are still writing in with their questions, comments and suggestions on where they hope the stories will go," says Kevin Sullivan, Executive Producer. "And of course, travel to Prince Edward Island has reached renewed highs over the past several years with people wanting to visit places where the shows were shot outside of Ontario. We wanted to give something back to the fans who have claimed this world as their own."
Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie are attached to reprise their roles as Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe in the four-hour miniseries to be broadcast on CBC Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story shooting this summer. Also set against the backdrop of the first World War, Green Gables is in shambles when Anne and Gilbert return to Avonlea. Anne refuses to marry Gilbert if he enlists, but feeling pressure from the small community, he joins as a medical officer. When Gilbert leaves for Europe, he hopes that Anne will somehow understand.
"Gilbert goes to war without having married his one true love," says Sullivan. "Its a very touching story and Annes world is thrown into upheaval before she finally realizes she cant lose Gilbert and seeks him out on the battlefields of World War I."
Says Trudy Grant, co-Executive Producer, "Were buoyed by the fact that the popularity of Avonlea and Green Gables has endured. It shows that people appreciate and want quality, family programming."
Sullivan Entertainment is also in production on an animated series, Anne of Green Gables, based on the original miniseries. The production is sharing two broadcast windows with major American broadcasters.
Sullivan Entertainment is one of Canadas leading producers of high quality, family entertainment.
