                                                    Road to Avonlea Movie.

Happy Christmas, Miss King.

Several years have passed, and W.W.I has started ,Avonlea has sent many of it's " husbands, brothers and sons... off to "fight the great war...". Hetty King refuses to let the war "change anything"  and goes on with life as usual. Gus is in Halifax, as a telegrapher. Felicity , wants to get a job,  finds that she has a gift for working with deaf children. Alec and Janet are at odds with each other, because Felix is in the Army fighting in Europe. Janet blames Alec when Felix is reported missing in action .Janet goes into a depression. Alec, feeling guilty, wants to join the Army , but is too old. Olivia and the children have returned to Avonlea, with out Jasper; and Olivia is very unhappy about this. Hetty is taken ill and Arthur Pettibone, who has changed from studying to be a vet, has become a medical doctor. , is there to help her. The King family, and many of Hetty's former students, try to cheer her up. The town's people cling to Hetty's stubborn refusal to give up, and try to bring Christmas to all in town.  This is a sad, and dark tale, not the "light and up lifting" Avonlea that we are used to. It is a very dark time in our history; men are dying, families and countries suffer major changes. The only bright spots are when Felicity announces that she and Gus are to have a child  and on  Christmas Eve, when the King family get a surprise... a  very welcome  visitor.

It was wonderful to "see" the King family again, and to learn of some of the changes that have taken place in their lives. It would be more wonderful for another family reunion movie. Gus and Felicity as a married couple, with their first child?. Felix and Izzy ...do they ever become a couple? Simon and Hetty, hopefully, do not lives their lives alone and apart?  Does Cecily ever find a "true love"? And they mystery of Captain Crane and Eliza ... will we ever find out? So many "loose ends" after seven years on television ...so many questions left unanswered ...? Hopefully, Sullivan Films will be answering these questions in coming years ...???
