Road to Avonlea : Introduction

Road to Avonlea is the story of a twelve year old girl who goes to Prince Edward Island to live with her mothers family, one that she has never known.  Her mother died of turburculosis when she was only three and  when her father is wrongfully accused of crimes she is sent there to be spared the problems.

Sara Stanley has grown up a very rich and undoubtably spoiled young girl. She and her father had become her life, the two of them and her Nanny Louisa lived in Montreal and Blair Stanley, Sara's father was a prominent business man.  But, when she arrived in P.E.I. everything changed.  The Kings  are farmers. They live in a small village called Avonlea and it takes  a while for Sara to fit in to her new surroundings and family.

The Kings are a tight knit family and quite a prominent family on the Island because of Alec King, the father.  He is known all over for his kind and gentle heart.  His wife Janet King though a bit hot tempered is  a very kind woman and is well respected and beloved mother of  three children Felicity 12, Felix 11, and Cecily, (about 7).  Felcicity is a snobby and filled with all the heirs and graces of her Aunt Hetty, and definetly filled with a good portion of the "King Pride" even at her age and initially she does not like Sara.  Felix is a bratty little fellow who seems to fall in to trouble wherever he turns.  Cecily is a quiet and sweet child who loves Sara and is basically just cute.  They all live at King Farm, the family farm that has been passed through the King family since Avonlea was first founded.   Sara also meets her long lost cousing Andrew.   Andrew is the oldest, about 14, and is quite smart.  He comes to Avonlea while his father goes to Brazil to work as a geologist.

The self proclaimed head of the King family is Hetty King, a opinianated and somewhat harsh spinster/ school teacher.  She lives with  the youngest King, Olivia at Rose Cottage.  (A house given it's name because of the huge covering of Roses the house had on it's opening).  Olivia was only a child when the Kings mother (grandmother) died and was raised by Hetty.  Sara went and lived at Rose Cottage and this is how it all began in Avonlea.
