SARAH POLLEY as Sara Stanley

Miss Sara Elizabeth Stanley: (b. March 9, 1893) Sara began as the main character of the Avonlea television series, but left the show before the final two seasons. She occasionally visited on episodes as a guest star during this time. Sara was brought up in luxury before moving to Avonlea and moving in with her aunts, Hetty and Olivia. She is still attached to the upper class and is heir to her father's fortune. At the beginning of the book, she is attending college in Europe and pursuing a career as a writer. As a child, Sara was a bit of an actress and her cousin Felicity was insanely jealous of her privileged lifestyle. The two of them seem to have solved their differences as they have grown older, but it is sometimes evident that Felicity would like to have some of the advantages that Sara has. Sara is a very tiny girl, in terms of appearance. She is short and thin, with light, wispy blonde hair and light blue eyes.


A veteran of film and television by age 16, Sarah Polley has grown up on Road To Avonlea. Like her character, Sara Stanley, she is an intelligent and fiercely independent young woman. Sara Polley brings her many talents and natural charm to Road To Avonlea.

She made her screen debut at the age four, playing a street waif in the feature One Magic Christmas. She won North American critical acclaim at nine for her performance in the PBS family series Ramona.  Sarah went on to win international recognition for her lead role in Terry Gilliam's big screen fantasy, adventure, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Other credits include principal roles in feature films such as Atom Egoyan's Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter,   Green Monkey, The Big Town, Pretty Kill and Confidential.

As a self-possessed, pragmatic young lady, Sarah has very decided views on the profession and her place in it. She intends to study Literature and Politics at university while continuing her present involvement in politics. She is an avid reader, flutist, and active supporter of issues including the environment and human rights. Sarah is also a budding writer and plans to publish her poetry in the near future.  She may even write a novel or two someday.

Sarah Polley is a popular and talented actress, and has many different roles to her credit. She appeared in the first five seasons of 'Road to Avonlea', only to have minor guest-starring appearances in the sixth and seventh seasons. She has had two Gemini Award nominations for her role as Sara Stanley, and has won two Gemini Awards for her role as Jodi Turner in 'Lantern Hill' (1990) . She is a very outspoken young lady, and a passionate political activist. Sara's other roles include 'Joe's So Mean to Josephine' (1996), 'Exotica' (1994) and 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen' (1989).  Most recently Sarah has starred in 'Joe's So Mean to Josephine' (1996) and the critically acclaimed 'The Sweet Hereafter' (1997). More recently she stared in GO (1999).
