Avonlea nominated for family award

TORONTO (CP) -- Road to Avonlea has been nominated in the outstanding TV drama series category of the first U.S. Family Film Awards.

The awards ceremony will be broadcast live Aug. 22 on CBS from Los Angeles.

Nominees were chosen from the past year's family-oriented films and TV shows by a panel of producers, directors, actors and journalists.

The final choices will be made by a poll of U.S. audiences through a 1-800 phone number and an Internet Web site.

Road to Avonlea ran for seven seasons on the CBC before coming to an end. The series is shown on the Disney Channel in the United States.

The Family Film Awards were created by the World Film Institute, a non-profit foundation.
